Book Review: Prince of Shadows by Nancy Gideon

The fourth  book in Nancy Gideon's steamy Shadows paranormal romance series is out.  Prince of shadows was released on May 27th and boy is it a keeper.   While this was my first book of the Shadows series, it won't be my last.  If you haven't read previous books from the series, don't worry this book transitions you in  and you get just enough background to catch up to the plot.

The story is about Kendra  and Cale Terriot,  and and soon to be Leader of the House of Terriot shape shifters.  Kendra is held hostage by a Cale's  barbaric dictating  father the clan leader.  She is forced to choose one of his treacherous and evil sons as her mate to unite their clans.  Kendra  must play a careful courtship game when choosing among the dangerous Shifter heirs, as she waits for rescue.

As a Prince in the House of Terriot, Cale knows he can be the leader his clan needs with Kendra at his side.  He has loved her since they played together as children.  But Kendra has seen his father murder her parents, and she believes him to be just as cruel and brutal.  Kale wants to show Kendra his love and prove to her that he can be the man she desires, but in a treacherous competition  for the crown, and future princess, any show of weakness means surrendering his throne and even death.  He struggles to find a way to win her heart, which also could mean letting her go to the one he thinks she loves.

Givens  does a great job of making a believable plot with modern day settings mixed with just a bit of supernatural.  The result is believable and not too much sci fi or  fantasy.   I loved the way she developed the plot and it had a great twist to the end that brought it all together in an unexpected ending.

While a few times it seemed like she was trying to go back and add in background details and got a bit off track, the story was great, the characters were charming and it kept my interest through over 384 pages (wow!!)    I had to stop reading just as I got to the last 5 pages, and I the book was so good I almost decided to skip PTA meeting.   I couldn't wait to get back to it!!

Watch out J. R. Ward, this author could definitely give you a run for your money!!  I had the same "I can't wait to see what's next" melt down I get when I read Ward's  Black Dagger Brotherhood series.  Which, by the way, has released the next book in the series Lover At Last (Quinn's story).  I will be posting a review of this soon, for those who haven't invested the $12 in the ebook yet.

This ebook is $5.69 at Amazon (kindle Edition) and $5.99 on Barnes & Noble for Nook.

New Release-- "Enamored", by Shoshana Evers (3 out of 5 hearts)

For those of you who are into something a bit more fetish inspired here's a great read for you.  Last month Enslaved, the first book in the red hot Enslaved Trilogy released on April 8th, 2013.
Enamored (the second eBook in the trilogy) was released by Pocket Star books on May 15, 2013.

It didn't fail to be dynamite.  Leave no doubt about it, it's not something for everyone.   This book is for those who don't mind a walk on the wild (hard core/BDSM) side.  It was fun and well written.  The story was a quick read at 175 pages long, but, boy does she pack quite a bit into those pages.

For those of you who haven't been keeping up with the trilogy, it is about 3 hot Billionaires who
are the BAD boys and leading Dom's in a fetish club.  The story starts with a simple bet between tween Marc and Lauren to long time friends who like each other, but are afraid to pursue a relationship for fear of breaking up a great friendship.    Marc Wilde has never met a woman who could fulfill his every need.  He suddenly realizes that his best friend Lauren may just be his ideal dream girl.  The problem is that he doesn't know how to talk to her about it.  So he decides to talk  Mistress Lauren
into a risky bet where she ends up as his sex slave for a week.

Can a Dominatrix fall in love with a Dom? Only if she can find a way to submit to Marc’s every desire and be happy about it.  Lauren has her doubts, but she knows she has often thought of Marc as a hot guy and not just a friend.   Reluctantly, she goes along with a bet to see who would be the submissive for a week.

At first I couldn't see how the plot was going anywhere, since I liked Lauren (a dominant Mistress) a bit feisty and very dominant,  and I didn't want her to change.  I was glad to  find that she kept her fire while still falling in love.  I love the way Evers puts the two dominant characters together,  while each is still able to keep their personalities and not loose who they really are.  I'm glad to say that it's not just another story where the lady gives up everything to be with her man.   (No wimping out for this Dominatrix just believable discovery and adjustment.)

While Fifty Shades is as far into bondage and kinky stuff I have read, I found that I wasn't grossed out or intimidated by the characters and their lifestyles.   I admit that  "kinkster" life isn't for me, and this isn't my usual type of romance read,  but Ms Evers managed to make the book understandable  and  interesting, even if you don't  know all the terms and significance of the lifestyle.  The sex scenes are not too graphic (which can sometimes overwhelm the plot).

At only $3.79 for Kindle edition, this ebook was well worth the price.   Shoshanna Evers is going on my favorites list.  Looking forward to reading all of this series.  Can't wait to see how the next bachelor gets caught!!

Enamored, Book Two in the Enslaved Trilogy, from Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Star imprint, is available now at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and iTunes.

Lisa Jackson's Newest Release-- Tell Me

I Wanted to make sure everybody has heard about Lisa Jackson's newest release, "Tell Me" which I'm already looking forward to.  As her readers know she is dynamite and I'm looking forward to reading it.  (Sorry-- Couldn't get a pre-release copy of this one, but working on it!)

Here' s the story line from the editorial reviews:  "The most hated woman in Savannah, Georgia, is about to be set free. Twenty years ago, Blondell O'Henry was convicted of murdering her eldest daughter and wounding her two other children. The prosecution argued that beautiful, selfish Blondell wanted to be rid of them to be with her lover.

Now Blondell's son, Niall, has recanted his testimony and demolished the case in the process. Reporter Nikki Gillette is determined to get the true story, and not just for professional reasons. Blondell's murdered daughter, Amity, was Nikki's childhood friend. The night she died, Amity begged Nikki to meet with her, insisting she had a secret to tell, but Nikki didn't go. Her guilt is compounded by other complications--Nikki's favorite uncle, Alexander, was the attorney who helped save Blondell from execution. And rumors swirl that he was one of her many lovers.
Nikki's fiancé Detective Pierce Reed, is concerned she may be compromising the case. As she digs for answers during one of the most sweltering summers in Savannah's history, he also worries for her safety. Everyone involved seems to have secrets, from Blondell's old boyfriend and his fundamentalist, snake-handling in-laws to the cop who led the original investigation. And somehow, the events of that tragic night connect to Nikki's own fractured family. But now the killing has begun again. Is Amity's murderer still at large, or is this a new, darker danger? Soon Nikki will discover what really happened twenty years ago, but the answers may come too late to save her life. . ."

This good read should be out on June 25, 2013 according to her publisher.  At a hefty pre-order price of $11.00 for the e-book and $13.58 for the hard copy ($15.00 for the signed edition), I hate to admit it, but  I'm going to be waiting a few weeks to get my copy.  Leave me a comment and let us know what you think when you read it on June 25th.
